Messer
Charles Messer, 70, of Robbinsville, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008
at his residence.
He was a native of Swain County but spent most of his life in New Jersey
and Robbinsville. He was the son of Geraldine Patterson Messer, and the
late Herbert Messer.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Randall
Ray Messer in Aug. 2006; and grandson, Anthony Michael Cummings.
He was the owner and operator of Messer Backhoe Service in Robbinsville.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Charles Eugene
Messer of Lakewood, N.J., Tammy Ranea Messer Scroggs, and her husband,
Michael of Robbinsville, Kristie Lynn Messer, and her fiance, Carlos Rodriguez
of Lakewood, N.J., Lisa Carol Jorgensen, and her husband, Paul, of Inman,
S.C.; brothers and their wives, H.L. and Dot Messer, of Jackson, N.J.,
Alvin and Donna Messer, of Robbinsville; sister and her husband, Sue and
Edwin Taylor of Brevard; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6 at the Townson-Smith Chapel.
The Rev. Daniel Stewart officiated. Burial was in the Messer Cemetery.

Mary Pendergrass
Mary Ruth Pendergrass, 66, of Coalville Road in Marble, passed away Friday,
May 2, 2008 at her residence.
She was a native of Graham County and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist
Church in Murphy. She loved singing in the choir, her flowers and spending
time with her family. She had worked at Peachtree Products and Levis.
She was the daughter of Beulah Lillian Adams Jordan of Marble, and the
late Noah Herman Jordan. She was preceded in death by her brother, Terry
(Tuck) Jordan; sister, Linda Kay Jordan; and son, Brian Pendergrass.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Buford Pendergrass; sons, Brandon
Pendergrass of Marble, and Dustin Pendergrass of the home; daughter, Pamela
Freeman of Marble; brothers, Willie Jordan and Jeffrey Jordan, both of
Robbinsville, R. L. Jordan of Andrews, Perry Jordan of Marble, and Ronnie
Jordan of Fletcher; sister, Lee Ellen Rickett of Andrews; grandchildren,
Joe Freeman, and his wife, Lynn, of Hayesville, Alex Freeman, and his
fiancee, Felicia, of Andrews, Windi Freeman and Breezlee Freeman, both
of Marble; and great-grandson, Jeremiah Freeman, of Hayesville.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 5 at Lone Oak Baptist Church. The
Revs. Tommy Messer and Ronald Patterson officiated. Interment was in Lone
Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tony Hall, J.R. Peals, Joe Freeman, Alex
Freeman, Dennis Ashe, and Peewee Gibby. Honorary pallbearers were Jason
Gibby and Mark Palmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mary Ruth Pendergrass
to the St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place,
Memphis, TN 38105.
