Jay Rufus Long, 68, of Robbinsville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Luther Long and Lillie Campbell Long. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian Wright; his brothers, George Long, Frank Long, and Carl Long; and his sister, Maudie Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Wiggins Long; his son, Paul Long of Robbinsville; his daughters, Rebecca Morefield and Teresa Garland, both of Robbinsville; his brothers, John Long, Lincoln Long, and Olen Long, all of Robbinsville; his sisters Lenora Kolac of Lanham, MD, Mabel Pridemore of Point of Rocks, MD, and Gladys Thein of Apex. His grandchildren are Amber Long, Tyler Long, Jacob Garland, Matthew Garland, Cody Morefield, and Nicholas Morefield. He has several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Sweetgum Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Reverend Jack Millsaps officiated. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at Townson-Smith Chapel, where the body remained until being placed in the Church 30 minutes prior to the service.
