The Graham County DSS has an opening for a two Social Worker III positions. In this position the social worker will provide services for children and families where child abuse, neglect and/or dependency have occurred which could include case management services, foster care, and/or assessments/investigations; conduct ongoing assessments, identifying whether children need protection from abuse or neglect, and develop a protection/service plan with the family; provide preventive services to ensure children can remain in their own homes if possible; remove children from unsafe environments when necessary; and provide comprehensive assessments including psychological/psychiatric, medical, health, legal, and educational issues to make a decision regarding best interest and safety for a child or family. Worker in this position must be skilled in Ability to work effectively with children and adults. Ability to negotiate community systems both public and private. Ability to communicate orally and in written form. Ability to work with pressure and stress. Must have driver's license and automobile for in and out-of-county travel. Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; Master's degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of social work or counseling; Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years directly related experience. RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Available Position: Social Work Supervisor II
This position oversees a Child Protective Services Unit composed of six social work positions. Responsibilities include supervision and consultation to Child Welfare Social Workers; assuring quality, accuracy, and timeliness of service provision and case management. The supervisor assigns cases to appropriate workers, reviews cases for program compliance and quality of service, and monitors caseloads. Supervisor must be able to counsel and discipline employees in this unit as well as complete annual performance evaluations; and participates in interviews for positions supervised and makes recommendations to higher level management on hiring decisions. Supervisor conducts weekly staff meetings and is responsible for overseeing case plans for all cases. Work in this area involves a thorough understanding of SW assessment techniques, treatment approaches, family system dynamics and intervention, all of which may be supportive or crisis in nature. The worker in this position will need to use considerable judgment in determining client's safety and risk factors. Supervisor is on call on a five week rotational basis in order to provide direct supervision and consultation to social workers performing on call duties after office hours. Supervisor promotes coordination and cooperation between our agency and other agencies, local officials, community and regional officials. Also, work involves a considerable knowledge of legal and administrative aspects of state mandated programs.
Minimum Training and Experience: A Master's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or Bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or Master's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or Bachelor's degree in a human services field (including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling) from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
In the event we are unable to recruit a qualified SWS II a lesser qualified applicant may be hired in a work-against status at a lower rate of pay.
Additional Requirements: A valid Driver's License, Sound knowledge of NC statutes and policy related to child welfare, outstanding leadership skills, with the ability to model and teach critical skills to, coach, and motivate staff, Strong critical thinking and assessment skills and excellent time management and organizational skills.

Income Maintenance Caseworker I
The Graham County DSS has an openings for an Income Maintenance Caseworker I. In this position the case worker will be the first professional person with whom an individual has contact when he comes to the agency for assistance. This worker will assist the client by helping him explore and define needs and determine what agency programs are available which can meet his needs. The worker will explain all programs which might be helpful to the applicant and for which he might be eligible. The worker will take applications for public assistance through appropriate programs, correctly determine the applicant's eligibility according to program guidelines, and re-determine eligibility at the end of every certification period. The worker will also make referrals, both to other programs and services available within the agency and to other agencies as appropriate. Worker in this position must be skilled in oral communications, reasoning, and judgment, organizing, writing, and computing in order to effectively interview, gather and record pertinent data and correctly and timely authorize benefits to eligible persons. One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. In addition to formal education, work experience required should be two years experience involving public contact, interviewing, and data collection, preferably in a human service field.
