Annette Millican Orr, 87, of Robbinsville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, N.C.

Born in Tupelo, Miss., Annette was the daughter of the late Clark and Sally Millican. Their family moved to Fontana in 1943 when her father came to work on the construction of the dam. After the project was completed, they chose to stay in the beautiful mountains and Annette grew up in Fontana, attending school in the village and then finishing at Robbinsville High School. It was in Fontana that she met Burl Orr, the love of her life. They were married for 63 years before his death in 2017.

Annette was retired from Graham County Schools, where she worked for 27 years as a reading tutor and teacher assistant. She was a 68-year member and past matron of Robbinsville Eastern Star Chapter #224. Annette belonged to the Robbinsville United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her love and loyalty to her Christian faith and to her family and friends.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Amy Orr Hobbs and son-in-law, Alan Hobbs, of Robbinsville; one brother, Bill Millican, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; brother-in-law, Lamar Orr, of Knoxville, Tenn. and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Townson-Smith Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service.

Her pastor, Rev. Eric Reece, officiated and the Robbinsville Eastern Star Chapter conducted funeral rites. The burial followed at Lone Oak Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Annette’s memory to Robbinsville United Methodist Church Good Samaritan Fund, 249 West Fort Hill Road, Robbinsville, N.C. 28771.

Townson-Smith Funeral Home was honored to have served the Orr family. An online register is available at townson-smithfuneralhome.com.
