4th of July Fun

Graham County residents can enjoy Independence Day for full fun-filled days.
That’s because Fontana Village has been celebrating since Sunday and activities at the popular resort and marina continue into the weekend, when downtown Robbinsville comes alive with the annual Heritage Festival.
A highlight of both events will be spectacular fireworks shows. Fontana Village lights up the night sky at 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, following a concert by the Aaron Tracy Band. The Heritage Festival pyrotechnics display begins at 10 p.m. on Saturday, after seven hours of music.
Southern Rush begins the live music at 3 p.m. Chris Orr & Piney Grove play from 4:45 to 6:15, the Carolina Bluegrass Boys jam from 6:15 to 8:45, followed by Johnny Webb from 9 to 10 and 10:30 to 11:30.
The Heritage Festival begins at 5 p.m. Friday with vendors, a cornhole competition, and music by the Jones Boys on Robbinsville’s courthouse square. The Fontana Ramblers take the stage at 6:30, followed by the Steve Jordan Band at 8:30.
The fun resumes Saturday morning with a veterans ceremony at 10 a.m., followed by the Little Miss Liberty contest at 11, egg and spoon race at 2 p.m., limbo at 2:30, motorcycle show and hula hoop at 3, watermelon eating contest at 4:30, cornhole competition at 5, and greased pig contest at 6.
Can’t wait for the weekend? Then head to Fontana Village, which has dozens of activities planned. Wednesday features an Independence Day cookout from noon to 8 p.m., inflatable slide fun time from 1 to 8 p.m. in the Grill parking lot, beach volleyball at 2 p.m., live music by South 129 from 2 to 5:30 p.m., and watermelon eating contest at 2 p.m., in addition to the aforementioned concert and fireworks.
Thursday activities include the ultimate Frisbee game at 2 p.m., Fontana Lake evening cruise from 6 to 7 p.m., talent show at 8 p.m., campfire and marshmallow roast at Gunter Log Cabin firepit at 8:30, karaoke at 9 at the Wildwood Grill, and nightly movie on the recreation deck at 9.
Friday and Saturday are also jam packed with activities. Visit: www.fontanavillage.com/July%204th%20Week%20Activities%202018-2.pdf.
