Gladys Jenkins, 92 of the Stecoah community, passed peacefully Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022.

She was born in the Snowbird community on June 3, 1930, to Clara and Sam Adams.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Dale Jenkins; a sister, Leona Smith; and a brother, Herman Adams.

She is survived by her brothers, Posey Adams and JC Adams; her cherished nephew, Lloyd Jenkins; and many other nieces and nephews.

Gladys was a faithful member of Stecoah Baptist Church and as long as she was physically able, she sang in the choir. A devout Christian, she missed being able to attend church in person in recent years, but God saw fit to send people to her home that she could bless and encourage.

She always made sure her home was open, peaceful and a safe comfortable haven for those He sent. Her faith and joy in the Lord were steadfast.

A meticulous homemaker, her kitchen was filled with plants and flowers that are a testament to her green thumb. Most women in church likely have at least one of her aloes, as she enjoyed dividing them and giving away these healing plants.

In recent years, she entertained visitors with her detailed memories of raising large gardens, cooking meals on a wood stove, raising tobacco, milking cows, churning butter and killing snakes. If a job needed doing, inside or outside her home, she could get it done.

An exceptional cook, family knew to anticipate her Mexican Cornbread, and her apple or coconut cakes.

There were never any leftovers.

Her family appreciates the care she received during a brief stay at Graham Healthcare & Rehab, and the exceptional care she received at home from Kaye Jones, Lloyd Jenkins, and other family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, at Stecoah Baptist Church. The Revs. G.D. Phillips and Mike Teem officiated.

The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.

Pallbearers were Michael Holder, David Holder, Arvin Jenkins, Roger Holder, Jeff Adams and Benny Nichols.

She was buried in the Holder Cemetery in Stecoah following the service, next to her beloved Dale.

Together again, at last and forever.

Townson-Smith Funeral Home was honored to serve the Jenkins Family.
