Joe Ted Orr, 85 of Robbinsville, N.C., passed away, Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

He was a native of Graham County; born on East Buffalo to the late A. J. and Bessie Crisp Orr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Bernice “Niece” Jones Orr; daughters, Diana and Kay; brothers, Hardy Orr, Pless Orr, and Kenny Orr; and sister, Hildred Collins.

Ted was a cattle trader all his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, God’s beauty and appreciated the simple things in life. He enjoyed sharing a good story and delighted in making a trade or deal. He loved his cattle, his dogs and his friends. He thoroughly enjoyed watching how God could change the color on his beloved mountains with each changing seasons, often saying “God sure can paint a purty picture.”

Ted was born into a family in Graham County with deep roots and he delighted in telling friends that he had 82 first cousins.

He will be lovingly remembered and survived by several nephews, nieces, neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at the Townson-Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

The Revs. Mickey Stewart, Daniel Stewart and Aud Brown officiated. Burial followed at Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends from noon – 2 p.m. at the chapel, prior to the service.
