William Robert Allmond, (Bob) 87 of Lake Santeetlah, N.C., went home to be with his heavenly Father on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, at Murphy Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was born in Millen, Ga., on Sept. 27, 1935, the son of the late William Robert Allmond and Annie Allmond Wiggins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Johnnie Kate Allmond; and her son, Richard William Allmond.
He is survived by his wife, Myra McLendon Allmond. He proudly raised his sons, Robert Michael (Leslie) Allmond of Gainesville, Ga., Brian Scott (Brenda) Allmond of Monticello, Fla., Jason Todd (Melanie) Allmond of Atlanta, Ga., and Edmond Drew Allmond of Roswell, Ga.; grandchildren, Michael Dylan Allmond and Kendall Blair Allmond of Gainesville, Ga.; sisters, Dot Jarrell of Sylvania, Ga., and Jean Diggs (James) of Mechanicsville, Va.; stepdaughter, Heather Neargarth (Greg); and step-grandchildren, Sarah Bentley, Matthew Travis, and Emily Grace of Marietta, Ga.; nephews and nieces, Lannie Jarrell (Stacye) Mary Lana Scott (William), Nicole Moore (Chris) and Derrick Diggs (Wade).
At the age of 16, after graduating from high school, with $20 in his pocket, he hitchhiked to Savannah, Ga. to begin his career with Western Electric.
He was a very successful businessman, visionary and entrepreneur. At the age of 24, he opened his first pizza restaurant in Atlanta, named the Pizza King in 1959. At the end of his restaurant career, he owned over 30 restaurants.
He also owned the Red and Black Restaurant in Athens, Ga.
His love of building restaurants turned into a real estate development career in Cherokee County, Ga. He developed Allmond Tree Farms, Little River Farms, Little River Manor, Sugar Mills Farms, Shiloh Ridge and numerous prestigious, private residences.
The love of the water and mountains lead him to his “Lakeside Paradise” at Lake Santeetlah, N.C., where he retired. Bob enjoyed traveling, boating and walking during his retirement. He also served on the town council.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at Townson-Smith Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Lake Santeetlah Community Center (4445 Tapoco Road, Robbinsville, NC 28771).
