* Robbinsville High School graduated 85 students. Tributes were given by students to parents, teachers and coaches. Jaycee Rogers gave the challenge to her peers by reminding the seniors that they would never all be in the same room again. “Remember your high school days and never be afraid,” Rogers said.

* The 27th Annual Fading Voices Demonstration was held at Little Snowbird Church – with one of the largest crowds from recent years, attending the event. Jerry Wolfe of Cherokee headed up the mound walk – a traditional ceremony marking a transition. The celebration is a tradition for the Snowbird Cherokees.

* The January floods that were declared a disaster for the Town of Robbinsville were approved for a state disaster declaration, to help the town recover. Mayor Pro-Tem Bobby Smith said that Robbinsville had spent about $30,000 to clean up debris, but more help was needed. During the flooding, 12 inches of rainfall was recorded in a 4-day period.

* Eric Robert Rudolph was placed on FBI’s 10 Most Wanted fugitive list – and the Appalachian Trail may have been the route taken by Rudolph. The reward for his capture was $1 million, along with an additional $1 million as a bounty offered for his capture.

* Dick Eyestone of Santeetlah and his company, Bay Networks, were bringing technology to Graham County classrooms. The company sent equipment to contribute to the 5-year plan of developing a network that connects to all schools. “This donation of $100,000 in networking equipment has advanced us 2-3 years in our technology plan,” said Rick Davis, Associate Graham County Schools Superintendent.

* Blue skies reigned over the first Dogwood and Wildflower Festival at the Stecoah Valley Center. The first-place winner in the wildflower arrangement contest was Karen Wilson. The Carolina Bluegrass Boys and Southern Appalachian Cloggers provided music and entertainment. Scottish dancers also made their appearance at the festival. The center planned to repeat the event next year.
