Lake Santeetlah – The Town of Lake Santeetlah’s council discussed a proposed condominium at-length during Tuesday’s regular meeting.
Atlanta-based TWN Architecture once again pitched the plan with a presentation. Representing the firm was Jose Rosado, who explained that the project — titled Lakeside Lodge Condominium at Lake Santeetlah — will center around a 3-story lodge surrounded by cottages, fire pits, a canoe-club pavilion and an underground parking garage.
Inside the condo will be 10, two-bedroom, 2 ½ units and two penthouses which will sell for between $300,000-$500,000.
But the council’s main topic was a request for a zoning variance to bring the project to fruition. The lodge will peak at 44 feet, 9 inches, which is almost 15 feet taller than the standard 30 feet allowed by ordinance. The location will be at the Town’s old lodge.
After much discussion and questioning, TSW determined that it needed more time to address the council’s concerns and asked that the public hearing be suspended until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Other news and notes from the meeting included:
* Town administrator Kim Matheson presented the financial report, noting that the taxes collected over the last month total $59,072.11. Matheson later informed the council that the final well-house pump has been replaced, at a cost of $5,383.74.
* The council set a Friday, Feb. 7 deadline for proposals on the water system repair and upgrades project
* Meeting dates for 2020 will now be on the second Thursday of every month, with the second Tuesday of every month set aside for public workshops
* The council nominated Mayor Jim Hager to be the town’s new finance officer. The motion passed 3-2.
* The council unanimously appointed Tonya Capeling to fill vacant seats on both the planning board and the TDA.
