Dayton William Burchfield, 89 of Oak Ridge, Tenn., passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at his residence.
He was a native of Graham County, and the son of the late William Burton Burchfield and Maggie Sue Farley Burchfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife and mother of his children, June Wilkinson Burchfield; daughter-in-law, Cindy Ann Burchfield; brother, Thomas Burchfield; and sister, Geneva Buckner.
He is survived by his son, William “Bill” Burchfield of Maryville, Tenn.; daughter, Gail Thompson of Maryville, Tenn.; long-time, loving companion, Edith McCall of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Bill Truitt of Waleska, Ga.; and sister-in-law, Betty Burchfield of Lake Wylie, S.C. He is also survived by four grandchildren and their spouses: Stephanie Burchfield and Drew Robinson, Ashley and Dustin Gillum, Michael and Hannah Thompson, and Maleah and Bunkie VanSkiver; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the Townson-Smith Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Scott Roper officiated.
Burial followed the service at the Old Mother Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from noon – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel, prior to the service.
