Body

On Saturday, June 25, 2022, Elouise Hooper Orr was carried home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Hands that showed her labors of love were held by her family and she was surrounded by those she had impacted the most.

She joined precious loved ones, including her parents, Arnold and Faye Hooper; husband, James Orr; daughter, Lesa Buchanan; grandsons, Stewart and Gus Buchanan, and Dex Hubbard, Jr.; and siblings, Tommy and Charles Hooper, and Margaret Oliver.

She leaves a legacy in her children and spouses, Terry and SueAnn Buchanan, Geoff Buchanan, Trevor and Charla Buchanan, Trina Buchanan, and Ginger and Dex Hubbard; her grandchildren, Brandon, Trint, Chevron, Charlton, Lisa and Samantha Buchanan, Cristina Tanner, Blaine Adams, Ali Amos, Harlee Cheshire and Hanna Grogan; great-grandchildren, Dayne, Brock, Zander, Kazeleigh, Kash, Addie, Khaygan and Abel Buchanan, Dayleigh Millsaps, Taylor Oquenda, Malachi Dockery, Novie Dutcher, Legend, David Gray and Waycie Patterson, Bri and Brooke Anthony and Brooks and Willow Cheshire; her great-great grandson, Hardyn Millsaps; sisters, Marie Carpenter, LouElla Hooper, Wanda Bateman, Jo Doris Blanton, Annie Strickland; and brothers, Leonard Hooper and Eugene Hooper.

Born Feb. 7, 1939, the epitome of a strong, mountain woman with Appalachian roots and a pioneer spirit, she was taught by her mother to be independent and work hard with eager hands, caring for those she loved so fiercely and faithfully.

She demonstrated courage, strength and resilience in the face of hard times – a testament of her strong faith. Her house, her heart and her hands were always open to anyone in her tight knit community on Buchanan Branch. She was a friend, a woman
of wisdom and a second mom to many through the years. Sharing her love language of food with others was a special gift, beautifully joining her heart of servanthood. You were blessed if you had the opportunity to gather at her table and enjoy the rich bounty from her master gardening, canning and cooking skills.

This fearless woman would conquer anything and was a diligent provider. When winter months drove her indoors, she would sew and quilt for others.

She enjoyed the simple things and loved the great outdoors. The beauty of God’s creation brought her much joy and her most special times were spent alone walking in the garden with God.

She said not long before she died that she was a blessed woman. She was able to stay home to raise her children, had a beautiful garden, good health and no one had to take care of her, and she had a wonderful family, but she was ready to go when the time came.

She was blessed and we, her family, friends, neighbors and community, have been blessed in the gift of Elouise.

Precious memories.
