Adams set new rushing record
Robbinsville - The Black Knights made it look easy Friday night, steamrolling the visiting North Rowan Cavaliers 44-14 to ensure another trip to the Western finals.
Robbinsville (No. 1, 13-1) outclassed North Rowan (No. 4, 11-3) on the ground, 459 yards to -44 from the Cavs.
Cuttler Adams was responsible for 282 of those posted by the Knights' ground attack, which pushed him past Brevard's Manny Deshauteurs (6,632 rushing yards between 1997-99) as the new all-time record holder for Western North Carolina. Following the fourth-round victory, Adams now has 6,737 in the books. His big night was aided by four trips to the end zone; in the third quarter, he had respective 49 and 85-yard dashes to help build the insurmountable lead.
Peppering out the scoreline was an 11-yard scoring reception by Roman Jones in the second quarter; and a pair of Chase Calhoun rushing touchdowns in the second and fourth stanzas.
Robbinsville will host the final step to the state championship Friday, Dec. 1, as the Mount Airy Granite Bears (No. 2, 14-0) will make the trek to Graham County for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff under the Big Oaks. Mount Airy once again eliminated Eastern Randolph (No. 3, 12-2) from the postseason race Friday, 42-21. Eastern Randolph had ended the Black Knights' run in the third round last year.
