Amanda Gyongyos has been hired to be Robbinsville's new water clerk.
Robbinsville – The Robbinsville Board of Aldermen voted to fill the second of two vacancies in its office staff on Dec. 20, voting to hire Amanda Gyongyos for the Robbinsville Water Department Town Clerk – pending drug test.
Gyongyos will replace Shari Birchfield, a longtime town employee who has been doing double duty: Birchfield has also been filling in as finance officer while that position has been vacant.
Gyongyos will be paid $12.50 per hour for her water-clerk duties.
She is an Army National Guard veteran, having served as a combat medic. Since then, she has worked as a certified nursing assistant caregiver in a nursing home and various duties at the Tail of the Dragon resort in Deals Gap.
She went to Robbinsville High School and Tri-County Community College.
The board of aldermen met Dec. 20 in closed session to go over applications for the job and picked Gyongyos, who most recently was employed by Blevins Insurance.
On Dec. 19, the board offered the job of finance officer to Annette Carver, who had been extended the job in October – but declined. This time, she accepted the $19-per-hour job.
Carver has been keeping the books at the Robbinsville Ace Hardware (A-4 Home Center) and earlier was an administrative assistant for the Graham County Sheriff’s Office, as well as an assistant for county finance officer Becky Garland.
The board had three applications for Birchfield’s position.
Aldermen needed to act quickly so that the new staff can learn the ropes from Birchfield, whose last day is Jan. 27.
