Robbinsville – For the first time since the late 1940s, you will be able to buy beer and wine at a Robbinsville grocery store.
Robbinsville voters approved commercial beer and wine sales in the November election and it has taken this long for the first application – from Ingles Market – to go through the approval process.
“I just received conformation from Ingles that their permit has been approved, and they are working with vendors on getting their products in the Robbinsville store,” Robbinsville Mayor Shaun Adams said in an email to The Graham Star on Friday.
Ingles Markets Chief Financial Officer Pat Jackson confirmed to The Graham Star in a Tuesday morning email that Robbinsville’s store would begin beer and wine sales in April.
Adams provided a computer screenshot of an email from Ingles executive Preston Kendall expressing gratitude.
“… Couldn’t have done it without you,” Kendall said in his email.
Other businesses that have picked up paperwork from Town Hall are Skyway Convenience Store, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 129 South and Massey Branch roads; Willow Tree Restaurant, Catering and Bakery, on Ford Street in Robbinsville; the Shell convenience store and El Pacifico restaurant, both on Rodney Orr Bypass; and the Caffe De Olla restaurant on Tallulah Road.
“The Family Dollar called about it, but never picked up the paperwork and one of the people affiliated with The Hub also picked up paperwork, but they are no longer open,” Adams said.
The Local Market (Aztex) on Tallulah Road – which plans to move into the former Huddle House building next door – also expressed interest, “but it will be a while before they open,” he said.
