Snowbird – Graham County experienced its first brush fire of the fall season Nov. 10.
The Graham County 911 Center received a report of the fire just before 1 p.m., near a home on Dobson Hill in the Snowbird community.
Firefighters from the N.C. Forest Service and U.S. Forest Service – as well as the Graham County and Snowbird fire departments – responded to the blaze, which was burning on Cherokee Tribal land. The fire was brought under control after burning less than an acre, but more time was required to cut burning snags near the fire line.
N.C. Forest Service Ranger Frank Cline said the fire was declared controlled at 3:30 p.m. and was the result of some debris burning, which got out of control.
