Mill Creek – A resident of the Tallulah community was burning a large brush pile around 5:30 p.m., March 14, when the fire ignited nearby dry material and began to spread.
Firefighters with the Graham County Fire Department were the first to arrive at the scene of the fire and soon had it controlled. Had it not been for the rapid response, the fire would have likely gotten much larger and could have spread into a woodland area.
Fire personnel with the N.C. Forest Service and U.S. Forest Service also responded to the scene.
The National Weather Service is forecasting more dry weather in the coming days of March, with April usually having the highest number of wildfires of the spring fire season. Landowners are advised to refrain from any outdoor burning on dry, windy days with low humidity.
