Stecoah – A debris fire got out of control and threatened a home April 28, in the Briggs Cove section of Stecoah.
Graham County 911 received a call that a fire was out of control around noon. Firefighters with the N.C. Forest Service, U.S. Forest Service, and Stecoah and Graham County Fire departments brought the fire under control around 2:30 p.m.
N.C. Forest Ranger Frank Cline said the fire burned less than an acre.
Spring fire season will continue a while longer until trees complete their “green up” process. Landowners are encouraged to be cautious about any outside fires especially on dry, windy days when the humidity is low.
