Atoah – The recent spell of dry and windy weather has resulted in a number of small brush fires in Graham County, including one in Hoot Owl Hollow off Atoah Circle.
Fire personnel from the N.C. Forest Service, U.S. Forest Service and Graham County Fire Department responded to the fire shortly after 6 p.m. on April 21.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, the fire was burning in the woods above a home. Ranger Frank Cline said that the fire trucks provided structure protection for four nearby homes, while forestry crews constructed fire lines around the fire.
Cline said the fire was controlled after burning close to three acres and all personnel were off the fire by 10 p.m. that night.
