Douglas Campbell died in a tragic fire Monday.
Atoah – An 80-year-old resident was found deceased Monday, after crews extinguished a residential blaze.
A Wednesday morning autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Douglas Richard Campbell of 257 Atoah Road. Crews were first dispatched to his Airstream camper around 11 a.m.
Graham County Sheriff Brad Hoxit said the preliminary theory is that the fire was started by a space heater, but nothing has been made official as of yet. The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist the sheriff’s office with the case.
Hoxit said Campbell’s family was notified Monday evening of his passing. His obituary noted that he was a lifelong resident of Graham County, loved animals and spent his life working in the construction field until he retired.
