Robbinsville – Details are being worked out for a car show that will be held in Robbinsville on May 7. Members of the Robbinsville Tourism Authority met on March 29 to discuss the event.
In its second year, the car show will feature competitions in several categories, including custom cars and trucks, classic cars, antique cars and more.
The competition may also include one for Rat Rods. A Rat Rod is a custom car with a deliberately worn-down, unfinished appearance, typically lacking paint, showing rust, and made from cheap or cast-off parts, such as a rifle used as a gear shifter, wrenches as door handles, or hand saws as sun visors.
There are plans to display the car from the late Rodney Orr, a NASCAR driver who was from Robbinsville and for whom Rodney Orr Bypass was named.
Vendors will be present offering such things as shaved ice and carnival-style food. Ten vendors had signed up as of March 29.
The event will be tied in with the Graham County 150th Anniversary Celebration, which is in its planning stages.
