Wolf Creek – Even though most people are off on Christmas, there are those who are called in to work holidays.
Such was the case on Christmas Day, when the Graham County 911 Center received a report of a brush fire near Wolf Creek Grocery on N.C. 28 just after 4:30 p.m.
Firefighters with Stecoah Fire and Rescue, Graham County Fire and Rescue, and the N.C. Forest Service responded to the fire – which was climbing the road bank into nearby woods.
N.C. Forest Service Ranger Frank Cline said the fire was caused by a debris burn that got out of control. The fire burned less than an acre of private property and was contained shortly before 5 p.m.
There was another small brush fire off Old Tallulah Road on Dec. 22, which was controlled by Graham County Fire and Rescue members.
