Atoah – Holidays are often a busy time for emergency personnel – including firefighters.
This was the case on Christmas Eve, when a brush fire was reported on Atoah Road around 2 p.m.
A person who was burning a section of road bank along the road called Graham County 911 to request assistance in controlling the fire.
Personnel with the Graham County and Snowbird Fire departments – as well as the U.S. Forest Service – responded and were able to contain the fire by 4:30 p.m.
The fire burned one acre of private land.
No structures were damaged and there were no injuries to fire personnel. Motorists reported that dense smoke from the fire caused hazardous driving conditions for a time.
