Three votes separated incumbent, candidate in May
Graham County Sheriff Jerry Crisp
Robbinsville – Anyone wishing to chime in concerning the 2022 Republican ticket for Graham County sheriff has just four more days to make their voice heard.
Following a May primary that ultimately saw just three votes separate incumbent Jerry Crisp (414) and Russell Moody (411), the latter filed a May 24 request for a second primary. The polls opened July 7 and close Tuesday.
At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 190 ballots had been cast in the second primary. Republicans and unaffiliated voters can file their decision – in the case of the latter, only if they have not voted yet, or only if they selected a Republican ticket in the first primary.
In the original May primary, Crisp carried the East precinct (edging Moody by just one vote), while Moody prevailed in the West, Stecoah and Tapoco precincts. Later, a provisional ballot tacked on another nod for Moody.
Whoever gets the nod Tuesday will go on to the general election in November to face Brad Hoxit, who is running unaffiliated. No Democrats filed for the sheriff’s race.
The Graham County Board of Elections has moved to its new home at 196 Knight Street, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday; and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday for early voting. Polls open across all county precincts at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and close at 7:30 p.m.
