Robbinsville – In a matter of 30 minutes Tuesday, a small electrical fire was both discovered and extinguished inside Robbinsville Elementary School.
Graham County EMS received a call around 11:30 a.m. about the fire. Originally thought to be part of a routine drill at the school, SRO Jack Booth quickly dispelled the notion and reported the fire was “real world,” adding that staff inside the building’s front office detected a smell akin to an electrical fire.
First responders were quickly on-site and found the source: a ballast inside a lighting fixture had caught fire. Soon enough, the flame and faulty ballast were removed. As a precautionary measure, faculty and students alike were evacuated from the building. First responders gave the green light for the school day to proceed as normal around noon.
