Robbinsville – A bid of $63,169 was approved by the Robbinsville Board of Aldermen at its Dec. 6 meeting, to completely replace the fence along East Main Street/Veterans Hill.
“It is in pretty bad shape,” observed alderwoman Debbie Beasley. “Wooden fences will always need to be repaired.”
Beasley reached out to many fencing companies, which suggested a chain-link fence.
Beasley wanted something modern, low-maintenance and strong.
The bid of $63,169 came from Franklin Fence, which will install a rod-iron fence with solar-powered lights. The company estimated the project would take two weeks to complete.
It is up to the town to maintain and pay for the new fence, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Beasley said the board will search for grants to fund it.
Beasley added that the Veterans of Foreign Wars can still hang flags and crosses on the new fence around yearly, in recognition of Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
