Yellow Creek – Firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service, North Carolina Forest Service, Graham County and Stecoah Fire Departments responded to a brush fire burning in the Yellow Creek section of Graham County around 1:10 p.m. Sunday.
The fire – which started from someone burning debris – escaped into nearby woods in steep, rugged terrain. The fire was burning in an area that had burned before and firefighters were hampered by heavy brush and rock cliffs.
The fire was brought under control at 5:20 p.m., after burning a little over two acres of private property and was a threat to nearby U.S. Forest Service land.
