Robbinsville – For years, it has dangled like a carrot.
In an effort to connect to a source of internet in downtown Robbinsville, one could easily navigate to their WiFi settings while in the vicinity and see a network deemed “Robbinsville WiFi” readily available.
Only, there was no internet to be accessed.
But thanks to the effort of grant money, BalsamWest and GREAT (Graham Revitalization Economic Action Team), public WiFi is now online – and free to use. The network name remains the same; there is no password needed for access. Coverage runs in a triangle from the Five Points Road intersection, up East Main Street/Veterans Memorial Hill, turns right onto North Main Street at the Graham County Courthouse and continues to the intersection with U.S. 129 (Tapoco Road) at Boars Nest. Speeds are fast and reliable, though there are
still a few bugs to work out: the network operates better in an outdoor setting or while sitting in a vehicle.
A resolution to providing the same quality to the interior of surrounding buildings is undergoing a troubleshooting phase.
There is no timetable on when the issue will be corrected.
