Sweetgum – Things went from bad to worse for a local resident during an investigative call last week.
Members of the Graham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a May 15 call at 116 River Drive, regarding an incident of assault. While gathering information, a neighbor approached officials and alleged that 53-year-old Jeffrey Charles Heid – who lives at the same address – had exposed himself to a female minor that was under 16 years old. Detectives later interviewed the victim and a graphic picture was painted, as Heid was alleged to have walked up to the minor and began performing a sexual act in plain sight.
Authorities say that Heid fled the scene before their arrival, but he was soon located along Tallulah Road (U.S. Highway 129) and arrested.
Heid has been charged with felony indecent exposure, as well as misdemeanor indecent exposure in connection with a May 13 incident that was also discovered amid the investigation. He was also assessed a charge of assault on a female and issued a combined $35,000 secured bond.
The Graham Star confirmed just before Wednesday’s press deadline that Heid is still in custody.
