Jeffrey Heid
Robbinsville – A repeat offender pleaded guilty to several charges in Graham County Superior Court on Friday, receiving a sentence of 9-20 months in prison as a result.
Superior Court Judge J. Thomas Davis handed down the verdict to Jeffrey Charles Heid – 54, of 115 River Drive in the Sweetgum community – on a case prosecuted by assistant district attorneys Jessica Huskeys and Paige Gilliland.
Graham County Sheriff's Office Sgt. David Moore launched an investigation after surveillance video caught Heid breaking into a sharps-disposal container at the Graham County Park off Moose Branch Road during the overnight hours of March 9, 2025, in an attempt to find used needles that might contain trace amounts of controlled substances.
Heid was charged in the case with littering of hazardous waste, a felony.
Additionally, Heid pleaded guilty to:
* Assaulting a detention officer on Feb. 17, 2022. He received an additional 120 days of active prison time for the charge;
* Threatening to kill another county resident on Feb. 4, 2024. For this, Heid received a suspended sentence of 120 days. He must also serve 18 months of supervised probation after serving his active prison sentences.
