Tapoco – The home of the Christopher and Jennifer Tock family was completely destroyed by fire on Oliver Orr Road in the Cochran’s Creek area Dec. 7.
The fire – which started around 3 p.m. – was thought to have been due to an electrical issue. The fire quickly spread throughout the house and also destroyed a nearby vehicle and camper.
The Santeetlah, Meadow Branch and Graham County Fire Departments responded to the fire. The family lost everything.
N.C. Forest Service Ranger Frank Cline said the fire spread into nearby woods – but due to recent rain, burned less than an acre.
Cline and other firefighters stated that if the fire had occurred before the rain, they would also have had a large brush fire to deal with.
