Robbinsville – Graham County Schools has announced third-grade instructor Kadey Phillips Jones as the 2024-25 District Teacher of the Year.
Jones began her 10th year as an educator this week.
She received her associate degree from Tri-County College while she was attending Robbinsville High School. Jones later attended Western Carolina University and received a degree in elementary education.
While teaching at Robbinsville Elementary School, she obtained a National Board Certification in Early Childhood Development. This certification recognizes teachers who have met rigorous national standards and demonstrates expertise in their area of education.
In her nine years at Robbinsville Elementary, she has seen changes to the educational system and she has dedicated her career to staying ahead of the curve.
“Since I began teaching, the profession has evolved to emphasize social-emotional learning," Jones said. "Students increasingly require support in problem-solving, emotional regulation and critical thinking. I value the opportunity to shape children academically while also addressing their individual needs and providing personalized support."
Jones is currently pursuing a master’s degree at North Carolina State University and plans to attain a dual licensure in both school and clinical counseling.
“My goals are to one day use my knowledge and skills as an educator to provide meaningful counseling services to children,” Jones added.
Jones will represent Graham County Schools as a finalist in the regional Teacher of the Year program for North Carolina.
