Jeffrey Heid
Robbinsville – A resident allegedly broke into a sharps container at a local park and left used needles on the ground, leading to his arrest four days after the discovery.
Jeffery Charles Heid, 53 of 116 River Drive, was booked March 13 on a felonious charge of littering hazardous waste; as well as second-degree trespass and injury to real property, both misdemeanors.
According to Heid's arrest warrant, the incident occurred March 9. Heid allegedly entered what is called the Graham County Park/Playground in the warrant – at 147 Moose Branch Road – and pulled used syringes out of a sharps container, which The Graham Star found to be mounted on the wall of a covered picnic area of the playground. A sharps container is designed specifically to dispose of medical instruments like syringes or scalpels in a safe manner, to help prevent the spread of infectious disease.
The warrant accused Heid of later throwing used syringes from the box onto the ground near picnic tables and playground equipment.
Heid was issued a $25,000 secured bond and was still in custody at the Graham County Detention Center on Tuesday. He is due to appear in Graham County District Court at 8:30 a.m., Friday, March 28.
