Nick Burchfield
Sweetwater – A two-vehicle accident Saturday morning resulted in the death of a 25-year-old member of the Stecoah Fire Department.
Nicholas Clayton Burchfield was traveling west on N.C. 143 when his 2013 Chevrolet passenger vehicle crossed the center line and crashed into a 2018 Toyota Tundra, which was being operated by 46-year-old Graham County resident Jonathan Matthew Hollifield.
Burchfield was extracted from the car and taken to Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in Murphy, where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Hollifield was not injured in the collision.
A Saturday afternoon post on the Stecoah Township Fire & Rescue Facebook page paid tribute to Burchfield.
“We are sad to say we lost a good member today. Pray for the family,” the post reads. “Nick you will be missed by many people in the community.
“You were always ready to help someone anyway you could.”
