Kevin Allen Dyer
Robbinsville – A Stecoah resident has been sentenced on a Class 2 misdemeanor charge of abandonment of an animal.
Kevin Allen Dyer, 37 of 136 Locust Cove Road, was found guilty in Graham County District Court on April 20 and ordered to serve 45 days in jail. Additionally, Dyer must pay $553 in court-associated fees; complete 48 hours of community service within a window of 12 months; and not acquire any more dogs.
A report came in to the Graham County Sheriff's Office on Oct. 1, regarding the living conditions of dogs at Dyer's address. Upon arrival, it was discovered that 10 dogs and four puppies had been left alone at the home for "an excess of approximately three weeks, leaving them no food or water," according to Dyer's Oct. 29 arrest warrant.
A witness to the conditions told The Graham Star that one dog was located deceased inside the residence, decomposing on a pillow.
Dyer was arrested Nov. 7 and assessed the charge.
District Court Judge Justin Greene handed down the verdict.
