Dana Darlene Ammons
Robbinsville – A local woman is facing felony charges, after a confrontation over a dog escalated into alleged assaults on a wheelchair-bound neighbor and a sheriff’s deputy responding to the incident.
Dana Darlene Ammons, a 46-year-old resident of 301 Moose Branch Road, is being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.
She is charged with felony assault on a handicapped person, breaking and/or entering, second-degree trespass, assault on an officer inflicting serious injury and resisting a public officer.
Sheriff Jerry Crisp said Ammons was at the door of a neighbor’s house when the neighbor’s dog got out. An argument over the dog escalated when the neighbor tried to shut her door. Crisp said Ammons kicked the door and hit the wheelchair-bound neighbor. As deputies arrived to a report of a dispute, Ammons ran behind the building, Crisp said. Ammons allegedly hit a deputy who tried to apprehend her.
She has a criminal record for 2008, 2009 and 2010 incidents, including DWI, assault on a public official, and drug-related crimes in Jackson, Haywood and Swain counties.
