Terri Jumper
Tallulah – Proving that you never really know what you are going to find while executing a search raid, members of the Graham County Sheriff’s Office came across a large quantity of suspected mash.
Mash, not meth.
Methamphetamine was indeed found in the raid of the Old Tallulah Road residence shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. Terri Carver Jumper, 46, was taken into custody and charged with possession of the substance as a result.
But much of what had officers perplexed was the suspected production of moonshine apparent in the home. Two, 55-gallon drums were filled to capacity with “mash,” a mixture of grains used during the process of brewing or distilling alcoholic substances. Members of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team later carried 3-4 “stills” out of the home.
Graham County Sheriff Brad Hoxit said the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Agency obtained the components of the suspected moonshine operation Monday – and that more charges could be assessed.
Simultaneously, the response team executed a search warrant roughly ½-mile away.
The suspect was not home at the time of the raid.
