Tourism Authority starts planning for Trunk or Treat
Robbinsville – Planning has started for the Trunk or Treat downtown Halloween celebration. The Robbinsville Tourism Authority met on June 29 for its monthly meeting and starting working out details for the annual celebration, held on Main Street and one of the town’s most popular annual events.
Halloween, Oct. 31, falls on a Monday this year, a school day that further complicates long-range planning for an event that could be affected by weather.
The board decided the hours for this year’s event will be 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Board member Dirk Cody suggested that the event start early enough for the “little bitty” children to go.
A rainy day alternative will be for a drive-through arrangement at Robbinsville High School. A drizzle won’t trigger a change, but “raining cats and dogs” would, Cody said. That decision will be made no later than 4 p.m. on the day of the event.
Sign up for the event by messaging Robbinsville Tourism Authority via its Facebook page (go to facebook.com/robbinsvilletourismauthoritync). There is no fee to participate.
Other news and notes
* East Main Street would be co-named (instead of renamed) Veterans Memorial Hill under a revised plan, Beasley said. The process to co-name a street is simpler than renaming it, she said.
* Who’s responsible for cleaning and maintaining wayfinding signs in the Town of Robbinsville? Is it the town, or volunteers? The signs need cleaning and plants around them need pruning, but no one is quite sure who has responsibility over them. Cody, who is also a member of the N.C. Department of Transportation, said the signs predate the Robbinsville Tourism Authority and belong to the town. He said the tourism authority needs to meet with the town’s Board of Aldermen to work it out.
* There will be a 5K run in Robbinsville on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11. The entry fee will be $20. There will also be a flag ceremony at Veteran Flag Park and a meal served for veterans.
* The date of this year’s Christmas Parade will be 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.
