Local man facing murder charge in 8-month-old daughter’s death
Corbin Lee Nunez
Robbinsville – A Robbinsville man accused in the February death of his 8-month-old daughter pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in Graham County Superior Court on May 4.
Corbin Nunez – 22 and a resident of the Five Points community – was arrested on Feb. 21 and charged in connection with the death of his daughter, Lively Crüe Colindres-Nunez. The daughter was airlifted to an out-of-state hospital on Feb. 11 and died a day later. Authorities were notified by the hospital following the arrival of the gravely injured baby, and updated when she passed away.
Assistant District Attorney Jim Moore will not be seeking the death penalty in this case, but Nunez is still being held without bail.
The Graham County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Division collaborated with the Graham County Department of Social Services to look into the alleged assault, before taking Nunez into custody 10 days following his daughter’s fatal injuries.
Nunez is being represented by Hickory-based attorney Victoria Jayne, who said she is still waiting for autopsy results.
“We need that autopsy,” she said in court. She submitted letters of support for Nunez from family and friends during his preliminary hearing on May 4.
