Robbinsville – Some ongoing Graham County projects have moved forward in recent weeks.
Graham County Manager Jason Marino Gave updates on various projects at the Graham County Board of Commissioners continued meeting, held Monday, Oct. 4. He mentioned work being done on various storage building projects and others.
He also discussed the HVAC work underway for the Graham County Board of Elections, which is moving into a wing at the community building
“The good news is we are back to work, “ Marino said of the HVAC project. “Hopefully that’s going to be until the duration, but you just never know.”
He said that although commercial HVAC systems were expensive, the efficiency of such systems was increasing and such a system would come with a warranty.
Additionally, he said the contractor would help remove to old system.
“They’ll get that started this week and with the equipment coming in, they’ll get started as soon as the equipment gets here,” Marino said.
He also further discussed a vaccination incentive the county is rolling out. The county plans to donate $55 to a local youth organization of the vaccine recipients choice if they take the shot.
“We’re looking at putting an incentive out there for each person that would want to go get vaccinated, we would donate via some grant help, it’s not all paid for, but we’re going to utilize the (American Rescue Plan Act) so it won’t be taxpayer money,” Marino explained.
“It’s kind of a win-win. We’d try to get our county vaccinated, and the money would go toward helping the children of Graham County.”
The initiative was crafted by Marino working with Graham County Health Director Beth Booth and Economic Development Director Sophia Paulos.
The board unanimously approved rolling out the new initiative and put more money toward it from grant funds and American Rescue Plan funds. Twenty-five thousand dollars of the money was already in place from the Dogwood Trust.
