Occupant later arrested during questioning
Robbinsville – The Graham County Sheriff’s Office is busy trying to piece together what occurred inside a home at the Cheoah Trailer Park on Saturday.
What is clear is that a 63-year-old female passed away while another person in the residence was found to be hiding alleged methamphetamine on her person during a subsequent questioning session.
Graham County 911 received a call Saturday morning about an unresponsive female at 171 Ford St., with first responders and deputies finding Nancy Overman deceased at the residence. Elsewhere in the home, a person identified as Jackie Rattler was found sleeping in the living room and taken in for questioning concerning Overman’s death.
After providing a statement to authorities, Rattler was arrested for probation violation. While processing Rattler, a body search uncovered a hidden, crystal-like substance consistent with meth. Rattler was arrested on the suspicion by Cherokee Indian Tribal Police.
Graham County Sheriff Brad Hoxit told The Graham Star on Monday that no further details were available concerning Overman’s passing, but an investigation by the office and the county medical examiner is underway.
Overman’s body is scheduled for an autopsy in Sylva this week.
