The Graham County Sheriff’s Office has had a busy few weeks. From July 20-30, arrests have been made that resulted in the recovery of stolen property and narcotics.
Tools recovered
Officers were dispatched to an ongoing breaking and entering at a residence on Lower Tuskeegee Road on July 20.
Among the items reported missing were a welder, two weed-whackers, plus fishing and camping equipment. The next day, the sheriff’s office received information that 20-year-old Josey James Brady was attempting to sell some of the stolen items. Officers set up an undercover buy and arrested Brady after the purchase.
The owner of the stolen property later positively identified the missing items.
Drug busts
The office has also garnered several victories against its ongoing war on drugs.
On July 22, narcotics detectives executed a search warrant on at 1329 Old Tallulah Road in search of 30-year-old Timothy Rebel Cable, a suspected fugitive from justice in the wake of a recent grand jury indictment.
Officers said Cable appeared to be using narcotics after entering the residence, with more spotted on a nearby coffee table. A second search warrant was soon obtained, and Cable was later arrested on charges of possession of schedule II and schedule IV substances, in addition to the bill of indictment.
The same day, officers were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 129 and Hares Creek Road in search of an unresponsive female inside a vehicle. Deputies soon found 35-year-old Frances Blondina Gibson, who refused treatment by on-site Emergency Medical Services personnel.
Gibson was later found to be in possession of various drug paraphernalia and narcotics, and was arrested on charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while impaired.
Within the last week, arrests were made on two residents of Ward Street in Robbinsville. Alvin Richard Johnson, 61, was charged July 27 with failure to appear on a felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance on prison/jail premises, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Kayla Nannette Hill, 37, was then charged July 31 with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine. Hill’s arrest came after a call was made to report “suspicious activity” on Poison Branch Road.
A July 28 traffic stop on Snowbird Road led to K9 Sam being dispatched to the scene, where Sam indicated the presence of narcotics.
In a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers discovered methamphetamine, marijuana and pieces of drug paraphernalia. The discovery led to the arrest of 60-year-old Sylva resident Linda Sawyer Carpenter, who was charged with possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver a schedule II controlled substance.
Robbinsville resident Jim Edward Jumper, 59, was then charged Aug. 2 with two counts of possession of methamphetamine and one count of possession of cocaine, a felony. Narcotics officers spotted Jumper walking on Ford Street and after positively identifying Jumper – who had outstanding warrants for his arrest – detained the suspect and made the discovery of the drugs shortly thereafter.
