Brian "Taco" Johnson
Robbinsville – Just a year into his second term, Alderman Brian “Taco” Johnson resigned Monday from the Town of Robbinsville Board of Aldermen, citing personal issues.
“Officially today, I turned in my resignation for Town Alderman due to personal issues and medical concerns, so I can focus on my regular job, family, myself and my fire department,” Johnson announced on social media. “I have enjoyed serving the people of Robbinsville for five years.”
Johnson also resigned as chairman of the board for Graham County Festivals, where he has organized such events as Music on the Square, as well as provided support for other events.
“I have several surgeries this coming year and I will not be able to provide the service and commitment it takes to do the job,” Johnson said in a post on the Graham County Festivals Facebook page. “I have faith in the Town Board and Graham County Festivals will progress in a positive way.”
The two-term alderman served five years on the board and seven years with Graham County Festivals.
He is also a volunteer firefighter, serving as chief of Station 3, the Santeetlah station off Tapoco Road.
Johnson sent a resignation letter to board of aldermen members and other key town officials.
He has been a key figure on the board of aldermen and was integral in the aldermen’s decision to put beer and wine sales on the ballot in November 2021.
According to Mayor Shaun Adams, the board of aldermen will consider appointing someone to fill out the remainder of Johnson’s term until the 2025 municipal election.
