Robbinsville – The Robbinsville Tourism Authority agreed to contribute $1,000 toward costs for a rodeo planned for Sept. 9-10 in Robbinsville – believed to be the first rodeo in Graham County since the late 1990s.
Organized by Chase Lancaster, the event is called “Lost in the Mountains Bulls and Barrels Rodeo.” It will be held at 8 p.m. both evenings at 67 Snowbird Road, behind the old Bemis Lumber Yard. Admission is $15 ages 6 and older, cash only and paid at the gate. Uniformed public safety personnel can attend for free. Seating is limited and it is advised to bring a lawn chair. Lancaster approached the authority board on Tuesday at its meeting, requesting a contribution to help defray costs for running the event, estimated at $13,000.
“I’m all for it, too,” said Debbie Beasley, a town alderman who is chairman of the Robbinsville Tourism Authority board.
She made the motion to make the contribution, seconded by board member Brady Cody.
Lancaster said he aspires to organize the rodeo as an annual or biannual event.
“I want to give the kids of Robbinsville something to look forward to,” he said, adding that it will offer an alternative to getting into trouble.
Trunk or Treat finalized
The board also settled on details for the Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 31, Halloween.
The event will be 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. on North Main Street, between Ford Street and East Main Street.
