Graham County sheriff’s deputies have made a pair of recent drug arrests, thanks to routine patrol work.
Around 9:15 p.m. Sept. 25, officers spotted a car driving on Rodney Orr Bypass that was not displaying a license plate. Once a stop was initiated at the 76 Food Mart, the driver of the vehicle was later identified as 32-year-old Snowbird resident Jeremy Martin Moore.
Another officer spotted what was described as a “white, crystal substance” lying on the center console of the vehicle. Moore admitted that the substance was methamphetamine and also told officers that he had two “rigs” – slang for injecting drugs intravenously – inside the center console. Officials obtained the two syringes – one was empty, while the other contained an “amber-colored” liquid – and Moore was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
Another stop just after midnight Friday netted more drugs. A vehicle was stopped south of the town limits for an equipment violation and officers with the Graham County Sheriff’s Patrol & Narcotics Division soon noticed narcotics and various drug paraphernalia in the passenger area of the vehicle.
One of the passengers – Patrick Jason Brooks, 43, of Tallulah – was searched and found to have suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Brooks was booked into the Graham County Jail on a $2,500 secured bond. The alleged drugs seized were sent to a regional crime lab for positive identification.
