Robbinsville – Plenty of candidates have filed for seats on both the Graham County Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education, according to the list of names certified at Friday’s Graham County Board of Elections meeting.
In total, seven candidates filed for the commission board, while five filed for the school board. Two unaffiliated candidates – Jerry Whitt, Board of Commissioners and Marsha Hollifield, Board of Education – have to collect 230 signatures via petition by noon Tuesday, March 3, before being placed on the ballot.
Any registered Graham County voter – of any party – can sign the petition.
Three Republican spots are open on the Board of Education, so those candidates will only appear on the general ballot in November. Likewise, the three Democratic candidates for the Board of Commissioners will only appear on the general ballot, as there are three spots open in that election.
The list of those that filed are as follows:
* Board of Commissioners
Raymond Williams, Republican
Keith Eller, Republican
Steven Pressley, Republican
Connie Orr, Republican
Scotty Hooper, Democrat
Kent Williams, Democrat
Jacob Nelms, Democrat
Jerry Whitt, Unaffiliated
* Board of Education
Rodney Nelson, Republican
Lois Pressley Satterfield, Democrat
Pam Knott, Republican
Rick Davis, Democrat
Jonathan Allison, Republican
Marsha Hollifield, Unaffiliated
The filing period ended Friday at noon. The primary election will be held Tuesday, March 3, with the general ballots to be cast Tuesday, Nov. 3.
