Bond denied for Smith

Robbinsville – Superior Court Judge Tommy Davis denied the bond reduction request of James Jay Smith on Monday.

Smith, 79, is being charged for two counts of attempted first-degree murder. The judge went even further, denying Smith bond entirely, saying that the former Fontana Heights resident “posed a danger to the community.”

In 2016, Smith allegedly shot his neighbor, Joe Shaffer. Shaffer lost right eye in the attack, which took place on a driveway shared by the two men.

Smith also faces attempted first-degree murder charges for the alleged shooting of his wife in 2018.
