Fontana – As fishing season ramps up, Fontana Marina – in conjunction with the Boy Scouts – held the sixth annual bass fishing tournament last weekend.

Fontana Lake is a known fishing destination for locals and tourists alike. Competitors of all ages came to the marina to see who could catch the best, biggest and the most fish. All proceeds from the event went to the Boy Scouts Troop 405.

At the end of each day, competitors would weigh in. At the end of the competition on Sunday, the winners – Alex Michaels and Dusty Williams – had a two-day total weight of 31.15 pounds. The duo won $2,000 as a result.

Second-place ($1,000) went to Joe and Eddie Miller – for a total of 22.71 pounds – and third-place winners were Keith Bartlet and Steve Barbie, who weighed in at 21.45 pounds and snagged $600. Other prizes included cash for the biggest largemouth and smallmouth basses.

“We had a great turnout this year,” said Marina Manager Brandon Jones. “It was a huge success for the Scouts and we love to help the community as much as we can.”

The event raised $7,000 for the Scout's troop.
