Joyce Kilmer Memorial Loop Trail Partial Closure

Cherohala – The Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest on the Nantahala National Forest, Cheoah Ranger District was impacted by the recent heavy rainfall. The significant rainfall resulted in retaining wall failures and unstable trail conditions.

As a result of these conditions, the lower left loop segment of the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Loop Trail, TR43, is temporarily closed. Please use the right loop trail segment to access the Memorial Forest and Poplar Cove. This closure will remain in effect until damage assessments and repairs can be completed.

Visitors to the area should use caution, as trees and trails can be unstable due to saturated soil conditions.
