Robert Michael Phillips
Robbinsville – A local man racked up a litany of charges including possession of a weapon of mass destruction after being arrested on Nov. 10 by the Graham County Sheriff’s Office.
Robert Michael Phillips, 33 of 90 State Shed Road, was arrested on the charges of possession of a weapon of mass destruction, two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, a count each of session of schedule I and schedule II substances with the intent to manufacture/sell/deliver and a count of maintaining a dwelling house for keeping and selling controlled substance.
The weapon of mass destruction in question was a brown and rust-colored Harrington Richardson Arms shotgun, modified to have a barrel less than 18 inches long. Such a weapon is illegal in the state of North Carolina, which has a minimum barrel length of 18 inches or total length of 26 inches for shotguns. The second weapon included in the report was a gray and black Hi-Point .380 handgun.
He was also discovered to have 1.9 grams of heroin in two pre-packaged baggies and 1.38 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to sell. Heroin is a schedule I substance and methamphetamine a schedule II under the state Controlled Substances Act.
The dwelling house was a single-wide trailer located in the 140 block of State Shed Road.
Phillips has been on the wrong side of the law before, being convicted of felony child abuse and pleading guilty to the crime on Dec. 4, 2008. The offense was committed on Aug. 4, 2007.
Phillips went before a magistrate on Monday, Nov. 16 and remained in the Graham County Jail on a $75,000 bond on Thursday.
